Chapter 22

Because a Little Head Never Hurt Nobody

Molly and I walked to the next door and entered.

“Molly, what does it feel like being a floating head?”

“Well, I can tell you that being just a head sucks, but even though I don’t fully remember what I was doing, I deserve this punishment. So, while it is terrible, it could have been worse. Hey, Slade, may I see you with your special eyes?”

I thought about it. “As long as you’re not going to get scared and lose your head or anything.”

Molly laughed. “Good one. I’m thankful to have met you. I don’t feel like you care whether I have a body or not, and that is a good thing to know someone likes me for who I am and not have ulterior motives. So, I will do my best to keep my head around you.”

I snapped my eyes black and looked Molly in her eyes. Molly had wings and a tail, like Sunako. Her tail looked a lot like a palm-sized snowflake, but the design moved around. I would have to share this information with the witches. “What do you think, Molly?”

Molly was silent for a few seconds. “I see pain in your future. Come touch my face and see what I see.”

I reached out and touched her face, feeling her spirit hand touch mine.

“Slade, what are you doing? Whatever it is, I can feel it. By the gods, is this what I look like to you?” Molly could see what I could by looking through my eyes.

“Yes, some of you looks more or less like this, but you look most like my friend, Sunako. She has wings and a unique tipped tail. I find it beautiful and strange that some have a dual body, and others have none. Even Asya says she doesn’t understand why that is. Molly, are you tired?”

“Am I tired? I was in a completely dark box for a long time. I never knew when I was asleep or awake. Why?”

“I was hoping you would welcome me deeper into your mind. I want to know you.”

Molly said, “Sure, but I will do you one better. Why don’t we get into bed, and you can rest your body and visit my mind at the same time as you hold me?” Molly smiled.

“Do you mean sleep and interact at the same time? I didn’t know that was possible.”

Molly said, “It is. I can tell that you have not started your training yet, and what better way to train the mind? While asleep, the mind is totally free from the outside world and its attention-grabbing annoyances.”

We got into bed, and she turned her head away from me, laying her head down on my arm. “Slade, no funny business while you are behind me. I know you might be tempted to get a little tail in this position.”

I reached down and lightly took her tail in my hand, tugging a few times.

“Oh, Slade, and on the first date! At least buy a lady a drink first.
